Stena Line. The Stena Line was founded by Sten Allan Olsson in 1962, this service covers not only Belfast to Scotland but also has services that run to Holland, Sweden and Germany. Stena Line also own and operate the H.S.S. this is one of the high speed ferrys that run between Belfast / Scotland. The H.S.S. is powered by four Kamewa type160 water jets, this provides the H.S.S. with some 100,000 horse power, the car deck is set eight meters above the water line. When the H.S.S. was being built a special dock had to be constructed at the shipyard to take a ship of this size, the H.S.S. is the biggest fast ferry in the world (to date 2003) it has a passenger deck the size of a football pitch, it is125 meters long and 40 meters wide, it can carry up to 375 cars and some 1,500 foot passengers. |
