The Belfast Grand Opera House is on Great Victoria Street it is one of the oldest and most beautiful buildings in Belfast, it was opened on 16th December 1895.

This was also the date that The White Star Line launched one of their ships, this was the Georgic.

The Opera House has been the scene of many pantomines and concerts, and some very famous people have also appeared there.

The building was badly damaged by a bomb explosion, (in the early 1970s) it was closed for about six months while the repair work was carried out. The building was designed by Frank Macham who has designed some 150 theatres throughout the U.K.

Lots more information is available in a book written by Lyn Gallagher this details more about the Opera House than I can fit into this web site it is titled.
