SIR JAMES GALWAY. From the outset of his career, James Galway has dazzled viewers young and old with his virtuosity and his engaging personality through appearances on television programs. James Galway was born in York Road in north Belfast. As a small child he mastered his first musical instrument--the penny whistle. His serious musical training began with lessons on the violin, but that instrument was quickly abandoned in favor of the flute. James began his career with a series of orchestral positions, the first with the Royal Shakespeare Theat In 1975, after six years with the Berlin Philharmonic, James decided to establish his solo career. Within a year he had recorded his first four RCA LP’s, played more than 120 concerts, and appeared as a concerto soloist with London’s four major orchestras. In 1979, he was awarded the Order of the British Empire by Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II for his musical contribution to society. James is the author/editor of several books. James also performed on several tracks from the soundtrack for "The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King" in a score composed, orchestrated and conducted by Academy Award-winner Howard Shore. |
