Henry Joy was the leader of the United Irish Men and he was hanged on the 17th July
1798 after the battle of Antrim. He was buried in the old grave yard at the rear of St. George's Church in High Street, some years later work men unearthed human remains believed to be Henry Joy Mc Cracken's these were re-intered in the Clifton Street burial ground in Henry Joys sister's grave. |
