George lived in the Cregagh Estate on the outskirts of East Belfast he was born on
the 22nd May 1946, he taught himself football skills by hiting a tennis ball
against door handles, he has also written a book all about himself called "Blessed". In his book he relates some of the things that made him a household name but for all the wrong reasons. He was spoted by a talent scout and was asked to go to try out for Manchester United, but George soon became home sick and went back to Belfast only to return again at a later date to Manchester. He then went on to play not only for Manchester United but was also capped 37 times playing for Northern Ireland. He is buried in Roselawn Cemetery next to his mother. |
