
Custom House Square fountain. |
This fountain is in memory of Francis Anderson Calder R.N. it is in Custom House
Square. It was erected nearly one hundred and fifty years ago and it stood originally on the other side of the square it has now been fully restored and cleaned. Calder was a founder member of the Belfast Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals and over a twelve year period Calder was responsible for the setting up of ten animal troughs across the city. The fountain was designed by Mr George Smith of the Belfast Harbour Commissioners. |
