The original name for the City Airport was Belfast Harbour Airport, the airport was
opened on 16th March 1938. The name of the airport is set to change once more
this time it will be changed to George Best airport in memory of George Best. Some improvements were made to the runway and more land was reclaimed from Belfast Lough this allowed the runway to be extended to 2,000 yards in length. The new airport entrance has now been moved further along the Sydenham By-Pass, this shows the old entrance into the airport. |
